Problem Description

In 3D modeling, there are multiple ways to create animated 3D models. When using 3D modeling software such as Blender to model 3D objects, some of these can even be combined, e.g. employing skeletal animation for movement of characters, together with blendshapes for facial animation. In this project you will create and document a workflow how to integrate 3D objects containing multiple kinds of animations between a modeling environment and a game engine.

Project Definition

The goal of this project is to establish best practices for using multiple software tools in a Game Development process. You will create a small video game as a prototype, where modeled, rigged and animated 3D objects are employed in the Unity Game engine. This not only includes exporting animated models from Blender into Unity, but also to export animation cycles from Unity Assets back into Blender, for refinement or re-use within other models.

Learning Outcome

Students learn content creation workflows for game development, especially modeling and animation workflows for character animation, as well as working with Blender and Unity.
