Problem Description

Work in a mixed team with Japanese and students to design smart services for the Japanese and German markets. Learn about design management, international project work, and market differences.

Project Definition

We will work together with students in Japan to design smart services in joint international projects. The services should be targeted to markets in Japan and Germany respectively and you will conduct joint market research and design so that the services match target groups in each market. This course is designed for students to learn how to design digital services using Figma and practical methods by project-based learning (PBL) from a user-centered perspective. It offers COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) with Kanagawa University in Japan. COIL will be held every two weeks, and regular classes will be held between them for fundamental knowledge and group work. You will work in mixed teams of ca. 4 persons. The teams will receive coaching in international project work. Students will build international teams to solve design assignments for smart services using a product (e.g., smart phone) based on UX/UI design and User-centered design. Students will communicate in English for COIL with international team members.

Learning Outcome

At the end of the course, students should be able to: (1) apply theories and practical methods of Design Management; (2) design a smart service from user-centered perspectives through a project-based learning (PBL); (3) create a service prototype and evaluate it suitably from the viewpoints of user experience.

Participation Requirements

High motivation and willingness to work in international project teams.

We will work with Figma, so you should be ready to familiarize yourself with this software.
