The field of study builds on broad knowledge and skills in operational IT management and focuses on strategic IT management. From this perspective, the tasks of setting up, operating and further developing IT are considered. Effectiveness, efficiency and security on the one hand, as well as the design of IT in line with requirements and the support of digital transformation are always in focus. The ability to explore new IT deployment scenarios and technologies and to assume management and budget responsibility are also part of this.
The following areas of competence are the focus of this field of study:
*Fundamentals: possess and be able to apply fundamental knowledge of computer science, *Architectures: being able to plan and design secure, scalable and distributed software and system architectures, *Infrastructure: Being able to implement, integrate and operate complex IT infrastructures, *Processes and models: Knowing and being able to apply processes and procedure models for the management of IT, *Resources and controlling: being able to use and control IT as a corporate resource and, *Communication: being able to organize and communicate across disciplines and be socially competent.
Finally, the ability to participate in the further development of the IT strategy within the framework of the digital transformation of organizations and their business processes, to set essential design impulses in the company and to be able to represent these at management level and in teams should be conveyed. Of course, feasibility, acceptance, marketability and value contribution as well as minimization of the risks associated with the use of IT are always important constraints.
Graduates of IT Management are responsible for the development, operation and further development of IT, taking into account effectiveness, efficiency and security, and can support the digital transformation. In addition to operations, this also includes designing IT to meet requirements (infrastructure, services, applications, processes, ...) and exploring new IT deployment scenarios and technologies, as well as management and budget responsibility. In the context of the digital transformation of organizations and their business processes, they participate in the further development of the IT strategy, set essential design impulses in the company and are able to represent these at management level and in their teams. The focus here is on feasibility, acceptance, marketability and value contribution as well as minimizing the risks associated with the use of IT.
Below, you find a number of alumni profiles with their specific example curricula.
4-semester course of studies (almost completely in German), start in the summer semester.
In both the three- and four-semester variants, the ECTS to be earned through projects in the 1st and 2nd semesters can be partially earned through WPF offerings (usually modules from other fields of study). However, at least 6 ECTS must be earned through projects.
In the four-semester variant, all 30 ECTS must be earned through projects in the 3rd semester.
The subsequent table contains an example curriculum for this alumnus profile.
